What are single-tooth implants?

Single-tooth implants are a replacement for a lost tooth root. They are placed into the jaw, and a prosthetic tooth, such as a crown, is custom-designed to go over the top.

Dental implants are beneficial for both your tooth function, smile aesthetic, and jawbone health. They are the closest alternative to a real tooth available, offering better durability, strength, and stability than dentures and bridges.

Planning and delivering successful dental implant treatment is a meticulous process. We achieve desirable outcomes for our patients using technology such as our CBCT scanner, which accurately demonstrates which area of the jaw will best lend itself to implant placement. Identifying the correct area of the jawbone ensures your implant is in the right place for maximum durability, as implants need good jawbone volume for placement.

We also use digital impressions to obtain measurements for the crown that will eventually be fitted over your implant.

As implants are fixed directly into the gum as opposed to being secured to another tooth (like bridges) or depending on suction to stay in place over your gums (like dentures), they don’t look any different to real teeth.

The crown we make to fit over your implant will be every inch in keeping with your existing teeth. We use tooth-like materials in terms of texture, shade, and strength, so there will be no limitations placed on you when you eat or speak.

The implant systems we use are supported by decades of research and testing, so it’s no wonder the success rate is so high for our patients. We use the Sweden, Martina, Straumann and Neodent implant systems.

Your single-tooth implant journey

Your full consultation is when we will explain the treatment and take CBCT scans, X-rays and photographs of your mouth and jaw. We will present you with a treatment plan in the days after your consultation if you are eligible for treatment.

Dental implants are placed under local anaesthetic by an Implant Dentist. This process takes approximately 1-2 hours. Once your implant is placed in the jaw, the healing period will begin right away. During this time, the jawbone grows around the implant, treating it as if it were a real tooth root.

Your crown is designed whilst you wait for the healing period of 3 to 6 months to be complete.

Your crown is secured over the top of your tooth, allowing you to chew and bite just as you do with your existing natural teeth.

Am I suitable for single-tooth implants?

A consultation with our professional dentists in Derby will establish if you are a good candidate for dental implants. Your general medical background and oral health will need to be assessed.

As implants rely on the jawbone growing around them, you must have a certain level of jawbone density to be eligible. Should we find you do not have the necessary pre-treatment amount of jawbone available, we can perform a bone regeneration graft to increase these levels. We perform these in-house, so you will not need to be referred out-of-practice.

Once in reception you are met by cheerful, friendly and helpful staff. I’ve only ever been treated by Tanzeel who is friendly and polite and who struck up a good rapport with myself and my wife. I’ve had a fair amount of dental work in recent times (to be expected at my age), but have to say that I have 100% confidence and trust in Tanzeel. He takes absolute pride in his workmanship, taking time to explain the options to you and gives you a little commentary throughout your procedure. There’s a bit of humour there too. A friend referred me to Ashbourne Road Dental practice via Kerri, one of the receptionists.She was fabulous and got not only my daughter set up with an appointment but got the whole family set up here with an NHS dentist, which meant that it cost me nothing for my daughter to have her teeth out, which was amazing. Her appointment was also booked close to me ringing up, which was perfectA few appointments later, and we are still extremely happy. My daughters tooth removals went very well, and any appointments or treatments for the rest of the family have been great. My first dentist appointment in 5 years. Always been a very nervous patient and the last dentist I saw made me feel so horrific about myself and I've been petrified since. Today was so totally different. Both staff in the room made me feel comfortable, I became upset as soon as they called my name and they sat me down with a glass of water, told me to forget about the appointment for a moment and had little chat to help calm me down. They asked if I was with someone and then fetched my husband from the waiting room to make me feel more comfortable. They were incredibly compassionate and made me feel more at ease than I've ever felt in my life at a dentist. Not my usual dentist but I was away from home when I chipped my front tooth and wanted it fixed asap. I managed to get an emergency dentist appt at Ashbourne road dental at short notice hoping for a temporary solution until I was back home and could see my own dentist. Not only was I able to be seen but I actually had a high quality painless and permanent fix on the day at a very reasonable price. Fantastic service that exceeded all expectations from Dr Hasaan and the rest of the staff were extremely friendly too. I don't live in Derby so probably won't be back but I would recommend this practice to anyone that does :)

I was seen promptly and was dealt with kindness and courtesy. It was explained that esthetically my implants would look better if I had a graft onto the lower gum. I said I was not interested however as the lower teeth were not visible at any time, even when laughing, so the Dentist was happy to proceed on the basis that the implants would be visible, but only to me! I was then given an appointment for the proper teeth to be fitted after numerous photos were taken.
